Music classes

Who doesn’t want to know more about the wonderful world of classical music? Sometimes the repertoire can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t have much prior experience. Whether you’re new to classical music or a seasoned concert-goer hoping to deepen your understanding, my classes are designed to meet you where you are in your listening journey.

Discover Classes
These 45-minute sessions run twice a month on Saturdays via Zoom. Perfect for beginners and those with some listening experience alike, each class focuses on a single short piece or movement. We explore its structure, key moments and aural signposts, with time for questions at the end. Sessions are recorded, so you can catch up if you miss one.

Explore Classes
These smaller, 90-minute evening sessions are run in two separate groups, each meeting once a month and exploring different repertoire. They are ideal if you want to discuss works in more depth or tackle longer pieces, from symphonies to operas. The classes are informal and relaxed — feel free to make yourself a drink and settle in as we explore the music together. Everyone is encouraged to share their own responses and insights.

All classes are intentionally varied in content, spanning from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works, from orchestras to a cappella choirs, and and from opera to chamber music. We explore historical context and genre, and often find ourselves wading into the fascinating ideas, stories and philosophical questions that the music can raise — all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, with no homework required.
